Najia Xiaoguan serves the traditional cuisine of the Manchus, the ethnic group that originated from northeast China who conquered the Ming Dynasty and ruled the final Qing Dynasty of China. According to the restaurant, it cooks "Najia Cuisine", which originated in 1748 and features a collection of dishes that were favored by government officials and aristocrats at the time. The story goes that the descendent of a Qing emperor’s doctor opened this restaurant based on instructions in an imperial cookbook. Whether it’s true or not, the story explains why the feasts here are so delicious and presented in such a glamorous way. This restaurant’s exquisite private dining rooms and the main dining hall in a large open courtyard space is set up to make you feel like you’re in the court of the emperor himself.
